But there’s no sex in this seven-year marriage, so Richard’s bored. Into the mix walks Nikki, a sexy, sassy, single friend he’s not seen in years. Nikki has problems and finds a reason to stop at his office every day. He tries to help, they have some fun, and he doesn’t mention Nikki to Brenda. His work and reputation suffer. Is he about to scratch the seven year itch? What choices does Richard have?

Is this really a loving god?
Note the following passages from the bible (NIV I believe). Please correct me if any of these are incorrect:

Exodus chapter 12:
So the people of Israel did just as the LORD had commanded through Moses and Aaron. And at midnight the LORD killed all the firstborn sons in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn son of the captive in the dungeon. Even the firstborn of their livestock were killed. Pharaoh and his officials and all the people of Egypt woke up during the night, and loud wailing was heard throughout the land of Egypt. There was not a single house where someone had not died.

Isaiah chapter 13:
Anyone who is captured will be run through with a sword. Their little children will be dashed to death right before their eyes. Their homes will be sacked and their wives raped by the attacking hordes. For I will stir up the Medes against Babylon, and no amount of silver or gold will buy them off. The attacking armies will shoot down the young people with arrows. They will have no mercy on helpless babies and will show no compassion for the children.

Hosea chapter 13:
Samaria shall bear her guilt, because she has rebelled against her God; they shall fall by the sword, their little ones shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open.

This isn’t all of them either. Consider even the story of Noah, "god" killed every living thing on earth with only a few exceptions. Mass murder that makes Hitler look like a joke.

Can anyone tell me how this comes from a "loving" god? Not that I believe in such stories, I just find it a bit contradictory that a perfect being would do these things to the ones he supposedly loves, unless killing children is okay with you. Thanks for your thoughts.
Just as a side note, it’s interesting how everyone dances around the topic of murdering of children and simply says that it was because of man’s sin or whatever.
If it was man’s sin, why the heck did he kill the children? Add this to the already asked question, if you will.

i dont believe in santa delivering toys to every house in the world in one night and you dont see me whining about it.

you aint fighting against God, your fighting against your own conscience.

Want cheese with that whine?

Joining the Marine Core at 27(I know this type of q. gets asked a lot)?
OK so I am a Van Wilder college student (basically a sixth year senior) I have and have had a constant tug within myself to join the elite brotherhood and join my family member and friends who have already become Marines. Of course Im in good shape (not boot camp shape but…) and have a good head on my shoulders. I guess I have two basic questions, firstly should i just ignore that calling and continue on in a meaningless existence trying to find my place chasing the American dream and secondly the mental aspect has me a bit nervous, I mean I am no pu$$y but what is the best way to deal with the mental pressure, thanks for your responses and feel free to e-mail me, I am VERY serious and not just wasting your time thank you- RG
ok CORPS, Jesus, don’t get your britches in a bunch over a spelling error just please give some info don’t be the kid in class correcting the teacher for misspellings on the chalk board.

You could join even after 28, with a waiver. Don’t join just because you want to feel "elite" or cool though.

wat up, hay there is nothing wrong with being a Marine at 27, though they out rank you, but Any one can be a Marine I love it. Age aint nothing but a number but once you get in to the fleet your going to have younger Marines at a young age out rank you. but you still have to respect them. small leadership. knu that once your a Marine no other branch touch you. like everyone says confidence is the key. its good to be nervous but you will learn a lot. and be yelled at. and you say I sir, lol. aayy good luck and see you n da future…

I would say go for it, my friend Pena is 28 and he was sort of in your shoes. Except, his whole family were all med graduates and while he had already been going to school for it and had a good background he decided that he was going to be a Marine for at least one enlistment so he would know what that experience was. He said he’d rather have experienced it for at least 4 years then to wonder the rest of his life "what would it have been like". Its a little different for me, I’m Air Force but I joined at 23 mostly because I didn’t know what I want to do and college just seemed to be going nowhere for me because I don’t know what I’m good at. So far the military thing is working out for me.

But back to your issue, the American dream is overrated and times are changing. I think the training, honor, and experience you will face will be very rewarding. Regardless of the sh*t you will face you will know you are doing a noble thing and courageous thing.

As cheesy as it sounds; "follow your heart"
How can you join what you can’t spell?
Jeremy | Jan 24, 2010

If you’re really serious then you’d better join the marines.

If I were in your shoes I’d rather try it out than regret it for the rest of my life.

Come on you’re 27, how long are you going to keep yourself from doing what you really want to do.

When you hit the age when the Marines won’t accept you anymore, then you’d probably regret it forever.

Just try the Marine life for one enlistment. You’d just lose three to four years. I think that’s worth it, instead of regretting that you never joined or tried to join till you die.
dastringer_05 | Jan 26, 2010

Just do it. I would go in as an officer though if you almost have your bachelor degree, you will get paid way more and won’t have people way younger than you yelling in your face.

GMC Reposessionon a abondoned 2004 Yukon?
One of my wifes girlfriends has had a 04 GMC Yukon on her property for some time now. I believe the story is that a friend who had financed parked it there before leaving on a international business trip. Two weeks into the trip he met his dream girl, married and has no plans on returning to the US. It has low miles and was in very nice shape but has been sitting uncovered, beneith a bunch of sap dripping trees for close to two years. My wife and her friend have a third friend that is a single mother two on a very limited budget who could use a reliable vehicle for a good price. My question is does anybody have any advice on approaching the lienholder (I believe GMC Fin.) in hopes of purchasing the truck at auction/wholesale or below wholesale price. It would be going to someone in need. Thanx Philip

The problem is, if you alert them of where the car is, they will come get it.

GMAC isn’t going to sell you the car at or below wholesale. They aren’t set up to do that. They are going to lose a lot of money on it and losing money at an open auction is one thing. Losing $8000+ selling it to a private party is another.

Otherwise, anyone who works there could sell cars to their family & friends for thousands below wholesale.
Nobody who works at GMAC wants to risk losing their job by selling a car for a huge loss outside of an open market auction.

Best you could do is make them a firm offer, perhaps even send them a check. Then let them auction it and if your offer is higher than what it brings, they MAY sell it to you.
(Or may not)

If the auction is willing to sign something that says the car brought X and your offer is $1000-1500 higher then the person MAY be able to justify it.

The problem is, most of the public CANT come up with the cash to buy a car. If they were told, ok we will take your offer, THEN those people say they need a few weeks to sell their old car, wait on an insurance settlement or whatever.

In other words, most of the public is full of crap.

Dealer auctions are the exact opposite. They sell the car at auction and the auction wires the money to their account immediately. Done deal.
One thing you can try if you’re a good poker player. Notify GMC that the vehicle has been sitting there for two years, and that they can come and get it upon paying you your storage charges of $15 a day for the past two years, or $10,950.

Or, they would rather, they can send you clear title in lieu of storage fees.
oklatom | Feb 03, 2010

If you know how to contact the owner (the guy who abandoned it) just ask him to sell it to your friend. How do you even know the car has been repo’ed? Maybe he’s still paying the note. It’s highly unlikely but anything is possible.

If you contact the lender they won’t be sympathetic to your situation, they are a large corporation and lack soul. It’s harsh words but they don’t care. They want the asset off their books. They’ll come pick it up, auction it off and sue the owner.

What I would do instead is talk to the county. I’m not sure which agency, probably the Clerk of the Court would be a logical place to start. Ask them how to apply for title/ownership of the abandoned property. Just tell them it was left there by an old friend who disappeared and you know nothing about it other than it’s been on your property for two years. With the right paperwork and legal process you may be able to obtain the title for free.
W/ Castlemusic. Myer Horowitz Theatre (University of Alberta) Sun, Oct 18 (7pm). Tickets: $20, available through Ticketmaster (451-8000/ticketmaster.ca).

Calgary’s Chad VanGaalen is no stranger to giving great advice: for instance, “Get your laptop waterproofed so you can check e-mail, take a dump, eat breakfast, and shower at the same time.” While this recommendation seems bizarre at first, it makes a strange sort of sense coming from this enigmatic artist.

VanGaalen’s output includes everything from off-kilter hand-drawn animations, homemade instruments, blends of electronic-infused folk-pop, to his most recent venture: Snow Blinding Is Crystal Antz , an electronic/post-rock album recorded under the moniker Black Mold and which might very well have been conceived in the shower. After three albums of well-received indie pop and two consecutive Polaris Prize shortlistings, VanGaalen’s new album obeys his comfortable yet skewed logic: “As soon as I got a cassette four-track,” he says, “that was what I wanted to make — like, soundscapes. I didn’t want any sort of boundaries — I certainly didn’t want to make songs.”

Black Mold could be considered a sort of prequel to VanGaalen’s other projects, even though it comes chronologically after it. “A lot of my friends understand it,” he says with a laugh, “just because they’re like, ‘Oh yeah! This is what you were doing in high school … finally when you’re, like, 30.’ It’s like a zit that’s never been popped.”

His previous albums always featured instrumentals that function much like the intertitles of silent films: their presence illuminates the narrative. This new project follows in the same vein: acoustic guitar meanderings remixed and crosscut by flashes of electricity. And when you hold Black Mold up against the light of VanGaalen’s archive, similar patterns do shine through. The song titles alone conjure up the same imagery that occurs throughout his work as a musician and animator. “Left Behind by the Digital Ships,” for instance, addresses his strange obsession with technology while his new animated video for “Metal Spiderwebs” features a half-cash register, half-LSD flashback creature straight out of R. Crumb’s worst nightmares.

“It’s kind of a stream of consciousness,” VanGaalen says, explaining his creative process. “Obviously, your mind is a product of your environment. I think the landscape around [Calgary] influences me quite a bit. That’s probably a product of not living in some sort of mega-city…. It’s kind of the unknown — I have no idea what the fuck is going on, and neither does anybody else.”

VanGaalen also says he’s influenced by his youth camping in the woods with his father, who was a landscape painter. “You’re going to be looking back on that quite a bit,” he says. “The more and more we become compartmentalized just by nature of cellphones and the Internet, I think it’s necessary we reflect back on an unsynthesized way of life.”

The song “Blood Machine,” off VanGaalen’s 2004 album Infiniheart might be the kind of thing he’s thinking of: the lyrics paint a vision of a dystopian city run by a giant heart that circulates blood through all its citizens. “Eventually [nature’s] going to be forced back upon us,” he agrees, “and we’re not even going to be familiar with it anymore. ‘What the fuck are you talking about? I’ve got to chew on this fucking stick to get nutrients?’”

I love the image, and suggest that now that Cadence Weapon has become Edmonton’s poet laureate, VanGaalen could serve the same function in Calgary. He laughs off the idea, though: “I don’t know if I’m the right guy,” he says. “I’m too lazy with language. I feel like I need things to be horribly simplified in my mind. I could be like an insane-o lowbrow, though. I could be the stoner laureate.”

very very easy math question?
Three men walk inside a hotel and decide to stay for the night. They pay the price of $30 by splitting it so they each pay $10. They go up their room, but then the manager realizes that the price that night is $25 dollars so he sends $5 dollars up with the bell boy. The bellboy realizes that $5 can’t be split by 3 so he pockets $2 and gives the men $1 each. But if you calculate it, the 3 men each payed $9, and 9 times 3 is 27, then add the $2 from the bellboy you got $29. Where did the last $1 go?

The $2 tip isn’t the difference between the $27 price paid and the original $30 amount.

The $2 tip is the difference between the $27 price paid and the $25 real fee. The men only overpaid their $25 bill by $2 - that went to the bellboy. There is no $1
